Comparison websites help us find the right product or service at the right price. This is an attractive offer and saves us time and money. For us as individuals however, comparing ourselves to someone else isn’t something I would recommend. So don't compare yourself to others, value who you are instead.

There is lots of media advertising these days about ensuring that we shop around for the best house and car insurance, the top mobile phone deal, the right gas and electricity supplier and the like. This may indeed help us to find the right product or service at the right price. Comparison websites tell us that they can save us time and money. This is an attractive offer and many people use them to find what’s best for them.

For us as individuals however, comparing ourselves to someone else isn’t something I would recommend.

The reason I say this is that more often than not, we view ourselves less favourably than the other person. We perceive ourselves as being less intelligent or less confident, having poorer ability or being less attractive or possessing fewer social skills. The list goes on.

Admire and appreciate others, yes, but compare, no.

Begin to love and enjoy yourself. Connect with your own inner sense of self. Understand your values, your strengths, your skills and experience, your gifts and talents. Focus on these and appreciate who you are and what you bring to others and the world around you.

Instead of comparisons, I would recommend that you:

Look in the mirror and see your positive physical self – note what you see and appreciate it
Omit focusing on your negatives – we all have them, remember that
Value who you are
Enjoy being YOU – appreciate your uniqueness and what makes you different

Yell out loud all the things you’re good at
Often, and regularly review your achievements and successes
Understand what others love about you
Review your personal strengths, and write them down
Stay focused on being who you want to be
Explore your natural talents and use them whenever you can
Learn from your disappointments
Find contentment within

Begin to love and enjoy yourself. Connect with your own inner sense of self. Understand your values, your strengths, your skills and experience, your gifts and talents. Focus on these and appreciate who you are and what you bring to others and the world around you.

By understanding and appreciating who we are as people and valuing our ‘uniqueness’ is the start of our own confidence and self-esteem building.

Working with a Life Coach can help you better explore who you are and what you have to offer. It can assist in improving your sense of self-worth and in turn, confidence. Comparing yourself to others in a negative way will be a thing of the past.

Go on… try it! An exciting journey lies ahead!
