Empowering myself and learning who I am

– Teacher

Since starting coaching, I discovered that I had to find a way to define me and my life so that I could no longer lose sight of myself.

I was exploring how to help make myself progress in areas of my life that I struggled with and came across the suggestion of a life coach in an article. I was uncertain what it would be like before starting but I knew I needed help and believed that I was taking a positive step in the right direction.

I wanted to address multiple areas of my life through coaching. I knew I had tried to previously change individual things but had not had success as my confidence, my weight, my work, my happiness, my goals, my relationships, etc were all linked and I could not isolate them, as working on one would affect the other areas.

Since starting coaching, I discovered that I had to find a way to define me and my life so that I could no longer lose sight of myself.  When I started I always defined myself through others, I didn’t know how to do anything else.  I also had difficulty relating to my emotions.  I kept myself detached and would describe myself as numb, bottling everything up and putting on a mask so that I wouldn’t bother others or have to deal with situations on an emotional level.  I still have to remind myself all the time as I am still working in these areas.  Since starting out with coaching, I enrolled in and have almost completed my Masters, have been made permanent at work, travelled more, and recently have taken a big leap and bought my own flat. I am not finished though as while I have identified my goals and begun to make positive changes in my life there are still things I need help with.

I appreciate all the time and support Sue has given me.  I cannot believe the strides I have made. Sometimes talking about things with someone who has an outside, neutral perspective is exactly what I need and it is through Sue’s questions, suggestions or comments that I have come to recognise what I need to do or how I can begin to break down and overcome my next challenge.  Sue is compassionate and an excellent listener; no matter how insignificant or ridiculous I may think something is, if it is something I need to deal with Sue has listened and supported me.  I am proud of what I have done since seeking out Sue!
